Class / Workshop Descriptions for Kids & Teens

REGISTER NOW FOR FALL 2017

Fall Session I:  September 11 - October 21, 2017 (6 weeks) 

Fall Session II:  October 23 - December 1, 2017 (6 weeks)

Class Registration:  Please register at least one week in advance of the class/workshop start date.  Classes/workshops with low enrollment will be closed 3 - 5 business days before the first class.  

Cancellation Policy:  A refund is given to students who cancel 10 days or more prior to the class start date.  Students who cancel enrollment within 10 days of the first class will not receive a refund.  

If a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, registrants will be notified by email or phone within 24 – 48 hours of the first class. Registrants will be given the opportunity to transfer to another class or issued a refund.

Colorful Cups and Bowls (Kids ages 7 - 12)

6 Week Class starting Wednesday, October 25 (Session II)

4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Level of Instruction: Kids ages 7 – 12

Class Fee:  $205 / $185 Members (price includes supplies & firing fees)

In the Clay for Kids class 7 – 12 year old participants will focus on hand-building ceramic cups and bowls.  Class will also cover color theory and glazing techniques. Students will create unique forms and then decorate them with colorful underglaze.  Projects will include making cups and bowls and learning how to glaze and fire clay.

6 Week Class starting Monday, October 30

4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Level of Instruction:  Kids ages 7 - 12

Class Fee:  $170 / $150 Members

Students will begin with learning basic shapes to create people and animals.  Drawing fundamentals will help students develop hand-eye coordination and facility with drawing tools.  As students develop drawing skills they will learn to create scenes that tell a story and develop a narrative to make a short picture book.

Explore more creative design processes while improving drawing skills in the follow up to the Fantastic Beast and how to Draw them class.  Taking what students know about animal anatomy and observation in nature, this class will focus on creative ways to playfully combine existing animals while discovering new forms, stories and creatures.  Instruction will include basic building blocks of a variety of animals in detail, learn how to draw using proper perspective, and putting your fantastic creatures in vivid motion so they become alive in the mind of your audience.

Join Highlights magazine illustrator Tim Davis in a survey course designed for talented students who are considering a professional illustration-related career. The course includes composition for storytelling, character design, sequential art, creating portfolios, business tips, and an overview of digital illustration. Weekly assignments given & critiqued.

Workshop Fee:  $69 (price includes supplies)

This workshop would make the perfect family time project.  Each registered student will take home either a stocking or Santa Hat just in time for the holidays. Participants will learn 2D appliqué needle felting & make embellishments by adding a name or initials.  All basic felting materials & supplies are included. No experience necessary.  Optional Bring: Your own 2" x 3" design on paper/smartphone
