Join GCCA instructor Mark Brosseau on Tuesday, August 28 at 6pm for the next ARTalk: Tiger Strikes Asteroid and the Artist-Run Gallery, a discussion of the role of artist-run galleries in the current art world environment. TSA member Alex Paik will join the discussion by video conference from Brooklyn, NY to talk about the multi-site artist-run network Tiger Strikes Asteroid (TSA). Lynne Marinelli Ghenov will be here from Knoxville, TN to discuss Knoxville’s newest artist-run space, C for Courtside.
Tiger Strikes Asteroid was started in 2009 in Philadelphia and has since added locations in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The artist-run network has organized over two hundred exhibitions featuring over eight hundred artists in their four gallery locations. Paik currently serves as the Director of the TSA network and was one of the original Philadelphia members. Brosseau was Co-Director of TSA Philadelphia for two years and is currently a remote member of TSA Los Angeles
This event will also be the first public viewing of TSA Groundwork - an annual archive of process drawings (works created during an artist’s regular practice but not normally offered for exhibition or sale) that will become part of the permanent collection of the New York Public Library (NYPL).
