FALL SESSION SCHEDULE AVAILABLE FRIDAY, AUGUST 2

Class Registration:  Please register at least one week in advance of the class/workshop start date.  Classes/workshops with low enrollment will be closed 3 - 5 business days before the first class.  

Cancellation Policy:  A refund is given to students who cancel 10 days or more prior to the class start date.  Students who cancel enrollment within 10 days of the first class will not receive a refund.  

If a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, registrants will be notified by email or phone within 24 – 48 hours of the first class. Registrants will be given the opportunity to transfer to another class or issued a refund.

Medium: Fiber

Dyeing to Quilt

Instructor: Debbie Moyes

6 Week Class starting July 24 (Summer Session II)

Wednesdays, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, ages 14+

Tuition: $249 / $229 Members

Learn how to dye cotton fabrics and use them to create a unique quilt.  In the first session, students will dye a 12 step rainbow which will then be used to construct their own quilt. Each week a new section of the quilt will be designed, colors selected, and the sewing will begin. Participants can make a quilt exactly like the sample or will be free to choose from many design variations. Class instruction will include the use of color in quilts, how to cut fabrics, hand sewing skills and fusible appliqué techniques. When the top is completed, all the information on how to finish it will be demonstrated so that students can complete their one-of-a-kind quilt.

Discover Felting Fiber Art 

Instructor: Cecilia Ho

6 Week Class starting June 5 (Summer Session I)

Wednesdays, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, open to all ages

Tuition: $285/$265 Members  

Learn all the basics of 2D & 3D needle felting, wet felting, nuno felting, shibori felting, and resist felting with different surface designs. Each week students will work on a different project including wool painting, solid wool sculpture, felt jewelry, wool vessels, felted soap & nuno felted placemat, etc. Felting is very versatile, creative, and fun to work with.  Tuition includes basic needle and wet felting supplies, wool roving and wool batt with 25+ color choices.

Graffiti

Instructor: Nick Burns  

6 Week Class starting June 5 (Summer Session I) & July 24 (Summer Session II)

Wednesdays, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, teens 12+

Tuition: $190 / $170 Members

An introduction to the styles, terminology and culture of graffiti and tagging. Learn startup tips and techniques from spray strokes and paint prep to transferring designs from black book word sketches to large scale canvases and panels. Class will an introduction to hip hop, waves, breakdance and cypher.

Needle Felted Owls

Instructor: Sarah Mandell

1 Day Workshop: Saturday, June 8, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, ages 10+

Tuition: $75 (price includes supplies)

Learn how to sculpt colorful wool fiber into a stylized owl. A demonstration of needle felting techniques, shaping, layering fiber, blending colors, and an overview of felting tools will equip students, ages 10 and up, to be able to turn wool roving into 3D objects. Supplies will be provided and include several ounces of dyed wool roving, felting needles, and foam felting pads. Students will have the opportunity to purchase additional felting supplies at the end of the class to take home if they wish.

Hand Pieced Quilts: Grandmother's Flower Garden

Instructor: Debbie Moyes

1 Day Workshop: Saturday, June 22, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, ages 14+

Tuition: $75 (price includes supplies)

Learn basic quilting skills while sewing your own version of this vintage quilt pattern. Fashionable during the Victorian Era, Grandmother’s Flower Garden is again popular because of its design versatility. Choose fabrics supplied by the instructor to make the quilt look modern or antique and discover the many ways the simple hexagon shape can be pieced. If you’re curious about quilting, hand sewing hexagons is an ideal shape to start with. In this workshop you will get a good start on a project of your own - a pillow, table runner or even a quilt.

Reflective Mandala Making

Instructor: Penny Hamilton

1 Day Workshop: Saturday, June 22, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Instruction Level: Kids age 9 - 12

Tuition: $40 (price includes supplies)

This is a basic introduction to mandala making for youth ages 9 - 12.  Drawing experience is not necessary.  Students will learn how to put colors and shapes together to create different effects, through shading, contrast and repetition. The instructor will also bring other fun materials to add to create a finished piece of artwork.

Wool Painting : Recreate The Starry Night

1 Day Workshop:  Sunday, July 21, 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, ages 12+

Tuition: $125 (price includes supplies)

Recreate Van Gogh’s Starry Night in wool using needle felting techniques. Learn how to blend, mix and needle felt with colorful wool fibers with step-by step wool painting demonstrations and instruction.  All basic felting materials and supplies are included.

Fiber Arts Integration for Teachers, Parents & Students

1 Day Workshop: Monday, July 22, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Instruction Level:  Open to all teachers, parents, and rising 2nd grade to high school students  

Tuition: $75 (price includes supplies)

SmartARTS teaching artist, Cecilia Ho will offer an intensive fiber arts integration workshop to prepare teachers, parents, and students for the upcoming school year through playful learning. Fiber arts techniques, including felting, sewing, stitching, weaving and quilting, will encourage students to develop visual, tactile, and fine motor skills. Cecilia will guide students to design and create fiber arts projects that will connect lessons to various academic standards.  All basic materials & supplies are included.

1 Day Workshop:  Thursday, July 25, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, ages 14+

Tuition: $75 (price includes supplies)

Learn basic quilting skills and discover the many design variations that are possible with this popular geometric quilt pattern. Starting with a simple 60 degree diamond, you can create a galaxy of stars, which is the Seven Sisters pattern. Or sew light, medium and dark fabrics together to create a pyramid of Tumbling Blocks. Color placement is important in this quilt pattern and you will learn how to choose them to get the effect you want, using fabrics from the instructor’s collection. You will get a good start on your own project - a pillow, a runner or a quilt!

Intro to Needle Felting

1 Day Workshop:  Saturday, August 10, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, ages 10+

Tuition: $75 (price includes supplies)

Learn how to sculpt colorful wool fiber into a 3D object and paint with fiber in 2D. A demonstration of needle felting techniques, shaping, layering fiber, blending colors, and an overview of felting tools will equip students, ages 10 and up, to be able to turn wool roving into 3D objects to start, then the second part of the workshop will equip students to work flat, and paint with wool fiber on a fabric surface. Supplies will be provided and include several ounces of dyed wool roving, felting needles, and foam felting pads. Students will have the opportunity to purchase additional felting supplies at the end of the class to take home if they wish.

Medium: Kids Mixed Media

Mix It Up

Instructor: Terri McCord

1 Day Workshop:  Thursday, August 15, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Instruction Level: Kids age 6 - 10

Tuition: $65 (price includes supplies)

Mix It Up is a mixed media workshop focusing on problem-solving with combinations of materials.  Students will create self-portraits using various 2D and 3D mediums and will discuss literacy as it relates to materials and creativity.

Wool Painting : Falls Park Liberty Bridge

1 Day Workshop:  Saturday, August 24, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, ages 7+

Tuition: $75 (price includes supplies)

Create a Falls Park Liberty Bridge painting in wool using needle felting techniques. Learn how to blend, mix and needle felt with colorful wool fibers with step-by step wool painting demonstrations and instruction. You will take home a beautiful wool painting which can be framed as wall art.  All basic felting materials and supplies are included.

Instruction Level:  Kids age 6 - 10

Just Felt & Be Creative! This will be a fun 2-day Summer Afternoon Workshop for you to make any favorite objects & characters from a rainbow color of wool. There are so many things can be created with 2D/3D needle felting. All basic materials & supplies are included.
