Class Registration:  Please register at least one week in advance of the class/workshop start date.  Classes/workshops with low enrollment will be closed 3 - 5 business days before the first class.  

Cancellation Policy:  A refund is given to students who cancel 10 days or more prior to the class start date.  Students who cancel enrollment within 10 days of the first class will not receive a refund.  

If a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, registrants will be notified by email or phone within 24 – 48 hours of the first class. Registrants will be given the opportunity to transfer to another class or issued a refund.

Medium: Drawing

Intro to Drawing for Kids

Instructor: Kate Furman

6 Week Class starting January 7 (Winter Session I), February 25 (Winter Session II) & April 15 (Spring Session)

Mondays, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, kids ages 9 - 12

Tuition: $190 / $170 members

In this class, kids (ages 9 - 12) will learn basic drawing techniques including contour drawing, shading, and texture. Class projects will include sketching from a still life and from landscape studies. Students will study simple line and contour sketches and learn how to compose the essence of a scene quickly.  Weather permitting, students will also sketch outdoors to learn value and composition with pen and ink and develop marking-making suitable for painting.

Fantastic Beasts and How To Draw Them

Instructor: Jean Baptiste Chuat

6 Week Class starting January 8 (Winter Session I), February 26 (Winter Session II), & April 16 (Spring Session)

Instruction Level: All skill levels, teens 12+

Tuition: $190 / $170 members

Teens 12+ learn how to draw amazing fantasy animals from literature and your own imagination! This six week class will focus on understanding shapes and the basic anatomy of your favorite animals and will creatively combine them using pencil and paper.  Students will explore drawing and shading techniques, learn about the importance of character and story, and exercise basic design methods while building a personal fantasy sketchbook, design portfolio, game, film- or book project.

Painting with Found Brushes for Kids

Instructor: Jeromy Ross

6 Week Class starting January 8 (Winter Session I), February 26 (Winter Session II) & April 16 (Spring Session)

Tuesdays, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, kids ages 7 - 10

Tuition: $190 / $170 members

Kids will explore painting techniques using experimental techniques and less traditional paint brushes like squirt-guns, bamboo sticks, mops, paint rollers, sponges and more. While experimenting with paint application and movement, students will learn the fundamentals of color theory and color mixing.

Graffiti Basics

Instructor: Nick Burns

6 Week Class starting January 9 (Winter Session I) & February 27 (Winter Session II)

Wednesdays, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, teens 12+

Tuition: $190 / $170 members

An introduction to the styles, terminology and culture of graffiti and tagging.  Learn startup tips and techniques from spray strokes and paint prep to transferring designs from black book word sketches to large scale canvases and panels.  Class will include an introduction to hip hop, waves, break-dance and cypher.

Inking Basics

6 Week Class class starting January 10 (Winter Session I) & February 28 (Winter Session II)

Thursdays, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, ages 12+

Tuition: $190 / $170 members

Open to teens 12+ and adults.  This introduction to inking basics will focus on fundamental techniques through experimentation with a variety of different ink-based mediums. Students will be exposed to ink & brush, nib pens, technical pens and Japanese brush calligraphy. In-class activities will focus on timed exercises, sketching from still life and observation of nature as it applies to understanding lighting and value. Students will be expected to complete one extended illustration as a class project.

Principles of Illustration

Highlights magazine illustrator, Tim Davis, offers a survey course in illustration designed for students who are considering a professional art-related career. The course includes character design, artistic composition, line and black & white techniques, color strategies, sequential art, creating portfolios, and an overview of digital illustration. English Paper Piecing - Spinning Wheel

Instructor: Debbie Moyes

1 Day Workshop: Saturday, February 9, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Instruction Level:  All skill levels, ages 14+

Tuition: $65 (price includes supplies)

English Paper Piecing is a popular quilting technique used to make small quilts. While hand sewing the “Spinning Wheel” pattern, you will learn how to choose fabrics, use paper templates and sew everything together. The “Spinning Wheel” is a portable project which requires few supplies. You will be able to sew the pieces together and start a quilt, make a table runner or cover a pillow. Bring your own fabrics or choose from the instructor’s stash.

Needle Felted Cactus

Instructor: Sarah Mandell

1 Day Workshop: Saturday, February 23, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, ages 7+

Tuition: $75 (price includes supplies)

Students of all ages and skill levels will learn how to sculpt colorful wool fiber into a needle felted cactus. A demonstration of needle felting techniques, shaping, layering fiber, blending colors, and an overview of felting tools will equip students to be able to turn roving into 3D objects. Workshop instruction will begin with felting a simple multi-colored pincushion to store felting needles, then move on to the more complex cactus project. Supplies will be provided and include several ounces of dyed wool roving, one small flower pot per student, felting needles, and foam felting pads.

Needle Felted Easter Eggs

1 Day Workshop:  Saturday, March 30, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Instruction Level: All skill levels, ages 7+

Tuition: $75 (price includes supplies)

Students of all ages and skill levels are invited to learn how to sculpt colorful wool fiber into a set of needle felted Easter eggs. A demonstration of needle felting techniques, shaping, layering fiber, blending colors, and an overview of felting tools will equip students ages 7 and up to be able to turn wool roving into 3-D objects. The class will begin by felting a set of 3-D eggs, then move on to decorating the eggs using applied lines, dots, and other detailed designs. Supplies will be provided and include several ounces of dyed wool roving, felting needles, and foam felting pads.

Needle Felted Hoop Art: 2D Botanicals

1 Day Workshop: Saturday, April 13, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Instruction Level:  All skill levels, ages 7+

Tuition: $75 (price includes supplies)

Students of all ages and skill levels will learn how to draw and paint with colorful wool fiber on a flat surface. A demonstration of needle felting techniques, layering, blending colors, and an overview of felting tools will equip students to be able to use roving to create pictures on fabric. Workshop instruction will begin by felting simple shapes and lines onto test fabrics, then move on to felting more complex botanical designs such as leaves or flowers onto high quality wool sheet felt. Supplies will be provided and include several ounces of dyed wool roving, flat sheet felt, wooden embroidery hoops, felting needles, and foam felting pads.

Hand Pieced Quilts: Thousand Pyramids

Instruction Level: All skill levels, ages 14+

Thousand Pyramids is a vintage charm quilt pattern made by women long ago using scraps left over from other sewing projects. In this workshop, you will start your own beautiful and modern quilt.  Learn to choose fabrics, use templates and sew these fun shapes together. Finishing ideas will also be covered. Bring your own fabrics or choose from the instructor's stash.

Felt Applique Wearable Art

1 Day Workshop: Saturday, January 19, 1:00 - 5:00 pm

Instruction Level:  All skill levels, ages 7+

Tuition: $75 (price includes supplies)

Create unique wearable art by using needle felt applique. Make and embellish your own unique statement piece to wear. Please bring a fleece jacket, cozy headband, fuzzy mittens, knitted hat or even a pair of jeans for your wearable art project. All basic felting materials and supplies are included. No experience necessary.

Abstract Wet Felting Decorative Art

1 Day Workshop:  Sunday, March 10, 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Instruction Level:  All skill levels, ages 14+

Tuition: $120 (price includes supplies)

Wet felting is an ancient felt making technique that was used to make clothes before the introduction of the loom or machines. Step by step workshop instruction will include how to mix and blend colorful NZ Wool and silk; then follow with wet felting techniques to create an unique abstract wool felt.  All basic felting materials and supplies are included in tuition. Please bring an old bath/beach towel.

Wool Painting: Spring Nature

Nature lovers will love to create a custom needle felted 2-D wool painting in a 5” wooden hoop or picture frame. Pick your favorite landscape scene or spring flower design and learn to transform them into lively felt art with colorful NZ corridale wool rovings. All basic felting materials & supplies are included.

This workshop will teach you to create Car/Sport themed wool paintings. Wool can be transformed into a painterly image using a few simple felting techniques. Learn how to blend and mix various shades of colorful corridale wool fiber to achieve an unique fiber art. All basic felting materials & supplies are included.

Wool Applique - Penny Runner

Sometimes referred to as coin, button or money rugs, women used these common items to trace around bits of wool to make decorative mats. Choose from beautiful hand dyed wool and craft a runner, mat or pillow to brighten your home.  Learn to hand appliqué these circles with colorful threads and how to add decorative stitches to embellish the simple shapes.

Wool Painting: Needle & Wet Felting Masterpiece

1 Day Workshop: Sunday, February 17, 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Instruction Level:  All skill levels, ages 14+

Recreate your favorite masterpiece like Starry Night or Wheat Field with Crows in wool while learning various felting techniques.  Instructor, Cecilia Ho, will teach you how to blend, mix and needle felt with corriedale wool.  Students will have the option to apply wet felting techniques to needle felting. All basic felting materials and supplies are included. No experience necessary.  Please bring an old bath towel and a color copy of your chosen masterpiece.

Practical Origami: Photo Cube Project

Instruction Level:  All skill levels, ages 14+

Tuition: $75 (price includes supplies)

Get your photos out of hiding and learn a clever, artistic way to enjoy them every day.  Step by step workshop instruction will give you a lasting, useful technique to create precious memory cubes of vacations, pets, the kids and grand kids for years to come. Your photo cube requires six 4“ x 6“ photographs, and six 4” x 6” base cards (which will be provided). Bring at least twelve photos if you wish to make two cubes. A mix of vertical and horizontal photos preferred.
